Navigation that works when GPS lies

Your phone’s GPS sometimes drops out, or puts you somewhere you are not. Dovedu works out your position on the phone itself, from satellites, motion sensors, the mobile network and Wi-Fi. When it can’t stand behind a position, it tells you instead of guessing.

Coming to Google Play · Android 9 and later · no ads

How it works

An ordinary map takes GPS at its word. Dovedu checks.

It weighs everything the phone can hear against everything else, and keeps your position even with no satellites at all. All of it runs on the phone.

Satellites

Raw signals from GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou are checked against each other. Whatever doesn’t add up is set aside.

The phone’s motion

The accelerometer, gyroscope and compass carry the car from one signal to the next: through turns, under bridges, in tunnels.

Cells and Wi-Fi

The mobile network and the Wi-Fi around you tell which part of town you’re in when the satellites go quiet.

Roads

Cars drive on roads. Dovedu knows them from its offline map and keeps your position on the one you’re actually on.

The car’s speed optional

A Bluetooth OBD adapter gives the app your car’s real speed, and the position holds even tighter.

Honest

When it doesn’t know, it says so

A wrong position is worse than none. So Dovedu always shows how sure it is, and when it’s lost it makes nothing up.

  1. GPS OK

The satellites agree with everything else. Just drive.

  2. Searching for GPS · ±30 m

No satellites, or none worth trusting. Sensors, network and roads hold the position, and the circle on the map shows how precise it is.

  3. Position lost

Dovedu doesn’t guess. It asks you to pin where you are at your next stop: one tap on Here I am and the position is sharp again.

Map, search and routes without internet

The map downloads to your phone one oblast at a time, once. After that, addresses and routes work even where there’s no signal.

In the car

  1. Phone in a holder, or lying flat
  2. Pin your position before you drive off
  3. Hands off while driving

Pin once at the start and again after parking. While the car moves, Dovedu never asks you to touch the phone.

Your data

Your data, your choice

No account

No sign-up, no sign-in. We know your installation only by a random ID.

Computed on the phone

Your position is worked out on the phone itself, not on a server.

Always visible

While the app records, a notification is always showing. Tap Stop and it all switches off.

You choose what to send

Crash reports are on, and you can turn them off. Positions and full recordings stay off unless you turn them on.

Stored in the EU

Sent over Wi-Fi only, to servers in the European Union.

No ads

No advertising or tracking SDKs. We never sell your data.

Good to know

No voice guidance yet

The route shows on the map, but the app doesn’t speak at the turns yet.

It can be wrong

Keep your eyes on the road and follow the road signs.

It uses more battery

The satellite chip and sensors work the whole time. On long drives, keep the phone charging.

Questions

How much does it cost?

It’s free while in testing.

Which phones does it run on?

Android 9 and later. Not iPhone: iOS doesn’t give apps the raw satellite signals.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. The map, search and routes come from the offline map, and the phone works out the position itself.

Do I need an OBD adapter?

No, it’s optional. If you have one, Dovedu reads the car’s real speed over Bluetooth.

When will it be on Google Play?
